Beverly Madden’s legacy at Iowa State is diverse and extraordinary, serving in a variety of capacities as faculty member and administration. Madden had met her husband, Warren R. Madden, when they were in high school together in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. Beverly Madden joined Alpha Delta Pi sorority as a sophomore at Iowa State after transferring in 1958 from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota.  She served as the ADPi Chapter treasurer both her junior and senior years at Iowa State, while also becoming one of the first members of the ISU Honors Program in the Home Economics College, participating in synchronized swimming with other ADPi sisters, and playing in the ISU concert band. She was one of Iowa State’s very first Honors students and mentored by Dean Helen Lebaron. Beverly Madden graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics Education in 1960, and Master’s degree in Family Environment in 1970. While working on her master’s degree, she taught the home management residence course. A College of Family and Consumer Sciences faculty member, she taught food science for 15 years prior to coordinating the college's career services office and spearheading the college's development efforts.

Beverly Madden served as the first university-wide Director of Career Planning and Placement developing one of the best coordinated university placement programs in the country. During her tenure, Iowa State was recognized for providing one of the top 35 career services programs in the nation. Her 15 years of work in that office directly affected the lives of thousands of Iowa State students as they prepared to transition into the workforce. In 2007 the Beverly S. Madden Career Center in MacKay Hall was named in her honor.

Beverly Madden served on Iowa State University Foundation Board of Governors and served on the Foundation’s Governance Committee and the Women and Philanthropy Board; Order of the Knoll, W.M. Beardshear Society member; University Museums’ Curators Associates Lifetime Donor and University Museums’ Advancement Council member; the College of Human Science’s Dean’s Advisory Council and the college’s national campaign committee; and, Cyclone Club member.

Warren and Beverly, "have served in virtually every professional and volunteer capacity that the university and surrounding community might offer," according to the ISU Foundation website. "They can be seen at almost every Iowa State event, from arts to athletics and everything in between."

In 2009, Warren and Beverly Madden received the Order of the Knoll Faculty and Staff Award.

Beverly and Warren Madden have two sons Walter R. Madden (ISU class of 1984 computer engineering), and William M. Madden (ISU class of 1987 computer engineering).
